Smooth, silky soft hair is something desired by every woman, and it’s a multi-billion dollar a year business. Not all products claiming to be effective means of producing such hair are really effective. It’s important to know the facts from the fiction, and while there are many really good products you can buy to help give you the hair you envision in your dreams, there are many you can find in your kitchen. One thing’s for sure, silky soft hair doesn’t just get that way–hair left to its own devices will wind up dry, broken and just a general mess. It’s what you do to care for your hair that is going to be the telling difference in the level of quality your hair exudes. The next time you enter your kitchen area, pick up one of the following to try out. Your hair will love you for it, and you’ll surely love your hair!

Here, Have a Beer–(or Hair, Have a Beer)
When it comes to an ideal formulation for a hair tonic, beer is it! The hops and malt contain proteins that repair hair at the cuticles while nourishing your hair’s follicles, for unexcelled shine and elasticity. After washing your hair, drench it in flat beer, thoroughly, and massage your scalp in circular movements. Let stay on for 10 minutes, and then rinse with tepid water. Do this twice monthly for shiny, lustrous hair.

Eggs are More Than Breakfast
Among the many powerful benefits to hair that eggs provide are major protein, fatty acids and soothing, hair loving lecithin. Not only do they repair damaged hair, but they also strengthen and thicken your hair. What follows are two recipes using eggs to try. With both, apply to damp, unwashed hair and cover with a plastic grocery bag or a shower cap for 30 minutes. Follow by washing and conditioning as usual, rinsing with cool water. Either of these can be performed once a week, for shiny hair lustre and bounce. Take care to only rinse out eggs with cool water, to avoid “cooking” them into your hair, which, as you might imagine, would not be good.

  1. Thoroughly mix till emulsified–one egg, one tablespoon olive oil and one tablespoon honey.
  2. Beat two eggs into a foamy appearance, then add two tablespoons of almond oil and ½ cup plain yogurt.

Coconut Oil
Organic and Unrefined Coconut Oil is one of the most wonderful, all-around natural hair and skin care products, in addition to being fabulously healthy in cooking. When used on your hair, it effectively replenishes moisture to dry or damaged hair, especially hair that has been chemically treated. It gently produces a brilliant shine and an awesome elasticity to all hair types. Before applying, slightly warm the coconut oil, and then thoroughly cover all of your hair, from the scalp to the ends. Massage everywhere, concentrating on the scalp and roots, making small circles with your fingertips. Cover your hair with a towel, which you’ve heated in the dryer and let remain for 30 minutes. Rinse with tepid water, after which you shampoo and condition like usual. For a different twist, you can try adding a teaspoon of curry powder to the coconut oil, following the same directions.
