It used to be that trendsetters were the day’s biggest movie stars, and what they wore on-screen and on the red carpets found its way of influencing the general population. Today however, trendsetters can be anyone from reality TV stars to celebrity chefs, musicians to Instagram celebs, as well as movie stars, artists, models, and fashion designers. Let’s take a look at some of today’s biggest trendsetters and how they influence the world around them.

Princess Kate
Next up is the Duchess of Cambridge, also known as Kate Middleton. She is the only person on this list with so much effect on trendsetting, that her influence has its own name: the Kate Middleton Effect. What she wears in public has been estimated to have more than a £1 billion of effect on the UK’s fashion industry. After she wore a pair of coral colored jeans to play a game of hockey in 2012, similar jeans began to sell out immediately. Her hat choices, dress designers, and show styles have all been copied and lusted after by millions after she is seen wearing them.

J Lo
Jennifer Lopez has remained in the spotlight for what seems like forever, and she still manages to stir up the fashion world every time she releases a video or steps onto a red carpet. From her manicures to her hairstyles, she gets everyone talking. Who could forget the green chiffon Versace dress that J Lo wore to the 2000 Grammy’s? 15 years after she wore that dress it is still what most people think of when they think of both Jennifer Lopez and Versace. That below the belly button cut caused waves among the fashionistas of the world, and continues to be emulated today.

Beyonce
Going back to singers, we would be remiss to not talk about Beyonce, who’s on and off stage style definitely has influenced a fair share of women today. Whether she’s rocking overalls while going out for pizza in Brooklyn, or wearing bright colored pant suits with no blouse and a matching bra, Beyonce knows what to wear, and she wears it well. Her trendsetting doesn’t end with her outfits either. Her hairstyles over the years have been a major influence as well. From the top ponytail to the long flowing wavy look, Beyonce’s hair is always a topic of conversation.

Kim Kardashian West
Reality TV star, and seemingly omnipresent headline maker Kim Kardashian is most definitely a trendsetter, but not in the same sense as the other on this list. She is known for her outrageous outfits and looks that lead to parodies, such as her famous couch dress, with a floral pattern that we’ve all sworn we saw in our grandparents house when we were kids.

Other trendsetters today that are making waves include Miley Cyrus, First Lady Michelle Obama, Kylie Jenner, and Vanessa Hudgens. Keep your eye on them to be on the heels of the newest trends!
